eBay is an exquisite source for purchasing aged jewelry, and engagements rings and wedding rings in particular. Recently we were bidding on a wedding ring from one a very quaint eBay store. It was a gorgeous art deco floral ring in 18k white gold. We lost it because we were not home at the time of the auction's end, though the maximum bid we set earlier in the day drove the price pretty high. We (I!) authentically wanted that ring! The eBayer, on her about me page, makes a very good point with regard to purchasing aged jewelry, mentioning that buying aged jewelry is one of the many ways to "go green" because you are in a sense buying a recycled product. I am developing other blog about aged jewelry, and I will link it when I get it up and running online. I will write articles tips and my eBay experiences with antiques buying and selling antiques; jewelry in particular.
First, an summary of the basic 4c's of brilliant properties. You will want an understanding of these, as a diminutive knowledge on these points can save you hundreds if not thousands of dollars when the time comes to "take the plunge".

Cut -You want to look for an ideal cut diamond. There is plainly no ways around this. If you get a shallow cut diamond, or a cut too deep, the light will not enter and exit the brilliant optimally, and will not sparkle and glow as it would with an ideal cut. If an eBay seeder does not mention it, ask them about the cut and "fire". Many eBayers may not know how to tell the cut of the diamond, however if they are request thousands of dollars, least they can do is take it to the local dealer to ask his opinion, or great yet, have it appraised. More on appraisals in other post forthcoming.
Color - You can save money if you know what color to select. brilliant color is represented buy numbers D-Z, D being the clearest and Z being "Fancy" yellow. The higher in carat weight a brilliant is, the more likely it will be up on the letter scale, with larger carats on the lower end of the color scale being the rarest and most valuable. For a smaller diamond, being in the D-I color range and of the permissible cut and decent clarity will make the brilliant sparkle and radiate to look larger than it authentically is. This is other item that many eBay posts ignore, and many photos will make the brilliant look darker than it authentically is. If a photo on the eBay post does not adequately reflect the color mentioned in the description, ask them to send you a higher potential picture.
Note on value: A one-carat brilliant of a D color will be twice as much money as a brilliant of G-H color, though the any color towards H is so diminutive as to be undetectable to the untrained eye.
Clarity - You can save big here, if you know what to look for. brilliant clarity is rated as follows:
F-If: Internally Flawless
Vvs1-Vvs2: Very Very diminutive Inclusions that are difficult to detect at 10x magnification.
Vs1-Vs2: Very diminutive inclusions that are not authentically detectable by 10x magnification.
Si1-Si2: diminutive inclusions - Noticeable under 10x magnification, but not at all to the naked eye (this is where the value is at).
I1-I3: Inclusions - Avoid this as inclusions are noticeable to the naked eye. Also, that many inclusions diffuse the light entering the diamond, making it loose radiance.
Note on reflection: eBay photos sometimes show reflections that come over as inclusions. Also, at the other end of the spectrum, I have buy brilliant earrings that were thoroughly misrepresented, and they arrived at my door as heavily included "champagne diamonds" - brown diamonds. I was very disappointing. The point is, and it's worth repeating: before you spend a large sum of money, on anyone on eBay, make positive that the photo is the actual item that you will buy, and that the photo posted tells the same story as the description.
Also, Sales population in the brilliant industry tend to push you towards buying at the very least Vs1-Vs2 clarity diamond, even though you cannot see inclusions at Si1-Si2 with your naked eyes and diamonds in the Si1-Si2 range have very diminutive effect on the diamond's radiance. This is because diamonds in this grade Si1 or Si2 are about 25% less precious to the buyer than diamonds in the Vs1-Vs2 range.
Carat - This is the weight of the stone. It can also be a size indicator, however a shallow cut 1 carat brilliant will have a larger diameter, but less sparkle than an ideal cut 1 carat diamond. Likewise, a deep cut brilliant will have a smaller surface, however less sparkle.
A .5 carat brilliant of a good cut, color and clarity will be more valuable, and gorgeous than a .75 carat brilliant of lesser cut, color or clarity. If you find a lovely aged or estate engagement ring on eBay, and want to be positive of the carat weight, the size can be measured with a caliper to a very close approximation from a pro fine jeweler. Also, if you have a ring to sell and are not positive of the stone, your fine jeweler can quantum it to get an appraisal for your eBay description.
If you are shopping around and getting a feel for pricing from other market online, Your prices will not vary that much. Engagement rings will all the time be in demand, so market will not need to offer sales often to clear their inventory, though styles do change. However, all things considered, you can save about 50% if you buy an H color brilliant of Si1 clarity, rather than a D color Vvs1 clarity, and the ring will have all the brightness and heart-stopping attractiveness of the costlier ring. If you shop eBay, you can get very good value for your ring, be very glad you did, if you know what to look for.

Diamond Solitaire Wedding Rings are a classic engagement ring choice. By far the most popular choice is the round brilliant-cut, but each shape has its own special charm
